One Solution, Two Options for Assessing High-Voltage Battery Capacity

Our battery readout service is designed for those who want a quick overview of the battery’s estimated performance. Our patented battery test provides an in-depth and independent analysis of the vehicle’s battery health, State of Health (SoH). The test has been validated by the prestigious RWTH Aachen University and delivers results that can be compared across different vehicle models. Both solutions use the same technical equipment.

DEKRA Battery Test

1

Connect

Go to the battery test URL on your smartphone. Connect the Vehicle Communication Interface (VCI) to the cable, then connect the cable to the OBD port.
2

Read out

After entering general vehicle data, the required diagnostic data is read out.
3

Drive

Data is collected during a brief acceleration.
4

Receive report

The evaluation is completed in a few minutes and shows the remaining battery capacity in a clear and easy-to-understand format. The full report with additional information can be downloaded, sent, or printed via the DEKRA customer portal.

The battery’s condition determines the value

The condition of the high-voltage battery is important when valuing a used electric vehicle. Inefficient driving style, high driving speed, heat and cold, mileage, charging cycles, and many other factors can reduce battery capacity.

Get full insight into the electric vehicle’s true battery health

Our battery test provides reliable, transparent information on the battery’s remaining capacity, enabling buyers and sellers to better assess the value, functionality, and performance of used electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.

Two test solutions for electric vehicles

DEKRA offers two different types of test solutions to measure battery performance: an in-depth battery test and a simpler battery readout. Both solutions use the same technical equipment—a dongle and mobile app—giving you the flexibility to choose the solution that best suits your business.

New battery center in Germany

DEKRA has inaugurated a new state-of-the-art battery test center in Germany.

The centre is an important building block in DEKRA’s strategy to develop testing and testing services for the next generation of electric vehicles. Here, all types of tests are carried out under one roof – from mechanical and environmental tests to so-called “abuse tests”, where batteries are exposed to extreme stresses far beyond normal use. The aim is to guarantee the highest possible safety standards and reliability.

Important points to consider before your battery test

Check that the battery in the electric vehicle/plug-in hybrid is included in the list* of batteries that DEKRA can test.
For the battery test to be carried out, the battery must be charged to between 40–80% (State of Charge).
The battery temperature should be between +10°C and +30°C (this may differ significantly from the ambient temperature).
The individual cell temperatures within the battery should not differ by more than 2°C.

* DEKRA’s battery test can only be carried out on batteries that DEKRA has verified and checked. Even if the make and model match, the battery in the vehicle may differ between different chassis number series.

If you have booked a battery test that DEKRA cannot carry out for any reason, we will not charge anything, e.g., if road conditions prevent the test from being performed.

No compensation will be provided by DEKRA if the test cannot be carried out for various reasons.
